A tanker truck carrying diesel fuel overturned on Hwy. 66 at O’Sullivan Ave. in Eureka after colliding with a car. The incident occurred at 8:37 a.m. Dec. 29 and caused fuel to spill over the road, Eureka Police reported.
Daniel G. Chaves, 32, of Cedar Hill was driving a tanker truck that belongs to Moore Oil Co. in St. Charles east on Hwy. 66, and Joshua Z. Hanneken, 21, of Pacific, was driving a 2006 Saturn Ion north on O’Sullivan Ave., attempting to turn right after stopping at a red light when the accident occurred, a report said.
While trying to make the turn, Hanneken crossed into the left-hand lane, and the fuel truck attempted to avoid the car but struck the left-front wheel of the Saturn, which spun and was hit again in the rear by the truck. Then, the Saturn spun south across both lanes of eastbound Hwy. 66 before coming to a rest on the south shoulder of the road, and the truck overturned onto its left side and skidded east on Hwy. 66 before stopping against the curb in the right lane of Hwy. 66, according to the report.
The truck leaked diesel fuel onto the road, and the Eureka Fire Protection District contained the spill, said Scott Barthelmass, Eureka Fire public information officer.
Neither driver was injured in the accident, and both refused medical treatment, the report said. Both vehicles were towed by Big Boys Towing, and the spill was remediated by Big Boys Towing personnel with the approval of the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, according to the report.
