Five people, including three from Valles Mines, were injured late Friday afternoon, July 22, in a three-vehicle accident at Hwy. 67 and Stormy Lane in St. Francois County, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported.
At 4:20 p.m., Robert W. Young, 69, of Valles Mines was driving a southbound 2017 Ford Escape and reportedly failed to yield to slowing traffic ahead, and the front of the SUV struck the rear of a southbound 2012 Ford Focus driven by Blake D. Thomas, 27, of Farmington. The impact of that collision pushed the Focus into the rear of a 2010 Toyota Matrix driven by Robert F. Webb, 42, of Leadwood, the report said.
No injuries were reported for Webb.
However, Young and Thomas had minor injuries.
Two passengers in the Escape were hurt, including William G. Young, 31, of Valles Mines, who was seriously injured, and Dawn M. Young, 32, of Valles Mines, who was moderately injured, the report said.
In addition, a passenger in the Matrix – Marjorie E. Johnson, 74, of Leadwood – had minor injuries, according to the report.
Thomas was taken by private conveyance to Parkland Health Center in Farmington, and the rest were taken by Ambulance to Parkland Health Center in Bonne Terre, the report said.
William Young was not wearing a seat belt, but the rest of those involved in the accident were wearing them, the patrol reported.
The Escape and Focus were totaled, and the Matrix had minor damage, the report said.
