Two Fenton women, a Fenton man and a Chesterfield man were injured Friday evening (Sept. 17) in a two-vehicle accident on I-270 north of Hwy. 30 in St. Louis County. The 22-year-old Chesterfield man was arrested for suspicion of driving while intoxicated following the crash, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported.

At 6:25 p.m., the Chesterfield man was driving a 2016 Cadillac ATS north on the interstate and while he reportedly was speeding and failing to maintain a single lane, the car struck a northbound 2002 Honda Odyssey van, and both vehicles ran off the right side of the road. The car struck a rock bluff, and the van struck a guardrail and overturned, the report said

Gabriel C. Escobar, 35, of Fenton was driving the van. He and two passengers in the van – Maria L. Flores Escobar, 18, and Gloria Perez, 36, both of Fenton – were seriously injured and taken by ambulance to Mercy Hospital St. Louis in Creve Coeur.

The Chesterfield man had minor injuries and was taken by ambulance to Mercy Hospital St. Louis, according to the report.

The Chesterfield man, Escobar and Perez were wearing seat belts, and Flores Escobar was not wearing one, the patrol reported.

The two vehicles were totaled, the report said.

The highway patrol arrested the Chesterfield man at 6:58 p.m. and held him for at least 24 hours at the St. Louis County Jail, the report said.

His name will not be published unless charges are filed against him, and as of this afternoon (Sept. 18), none had been filed.
