Five children and a woman, all from Arkansas, were hurt in a single-vehicle traffic accident early Sunday morning, Aug. 21, on Hwy. 67 near Valles Mines in southern Jefferson County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported that Kathleen Diong, 44, of Kensett, Ark., was driving a 2008 Dodge Durango north on Hwy. 67 south of Hwy. V at 4:10 a.m. when she fell asleep, and the Dodge ran off the left side of the road. Diong swerved right and the Dodge went off the right side of the of road, then overcorrected, causing the Dodge to overturn and hit the median cables.

Diong sustained moderate injuries, as did a 13-year-old girl who was a passenger in the Dodge. Four other juvenile passengers – two 17-year-old girls, a 16-year-old boy and a 10-year-old girl – all had minor injuries. All of the passengers also were from Kensett, Ark., according to the report.

All were taken by Valle Ambulance to Mercy Hospital South in south St. Louis County, the report said.

Updates on their conditions were not available.

All in the Dodge except the 16-year-old boy were wearing seat belts, the report said.

The Dodge was totaled, according to the report.

The Highway Patrol does not release the names of juveniles involved in traffic accidents.
