fatal accident with road lines in background

A 19-year-old Silex man died Tuesday morning, April 1, in a two-vehicle crash on Old Hwy. 21 near Lions Den Road in Imperial, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported.

At 6:54 a.m., the teen was driving a southbound 2005 Pontiac Sunfire when he crossed the centerline and struck a 2000 Sterling L9500 Series dump truck head-on. A 63-year-old House Springs man was driving the dump truck, the report said.

The Silex teen was pronounced dead on the scene at 7:13 a.m. by emergency medical services. The House Springs man was moderately injured and taken by Rock Township Ambulance to Mercy Hospital South in St. Louis County, according to the report.

Neither of the drivers was wearing a seat belt.

The Pontiac was totaled, and the dump truck was extensively damaged, the report said.

Old Hwy. 21 in the area was closed down for several hours following the accident. Saline Valley Fire Marshal Ryan Lesh said Jefferson County HAZMAT cleaned up a diesel fuel spill from the dump truck.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office and Jefferson County Public Works Department also assisted with the crash. The Antonia and Fenton fire protection districts covered Saline Valley’s calls during the incident.
