A 49-year-old Perryville man died on Monday morning, March 17, in a crash involving two tractor-trailers on I-55 near the Danby Road overpass south of Festus, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported.
At 7:18 a.m., the Perryville man was driving a northbound 2021 Freightliner Cascadia when he struck the rear of a 2020 Peterbilt 389 driven by a 50-year-old Knoxville, Ala., man, the report said.
The Perryville man died at the scene and was taken by the Jefferson County Medical Examiner’s Office to the St. Louis County Morgue. The Alabama man was taken by Joachim-Plattin Ambulance to Mercy Hospital Jefferson in Crystal City, the report said.
Both drivers were wearing seat belts, the patrol reported.
The Freightliner was totaled and the Peterbilt was moderately damaged, the report said.
