Norman E. McArthur, 59, of Hillsboro died Monday morning, April 22, when struck by a vehicle while walking on Hwy. 30 at Gravois Road in House Springs, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported.
At 5:22 a.m., Jeremiah S. Schmidt, 45, of Cedar Hill was driving east in a 2016 Ram 1500 when the vehicle in front of him swerved to avoid McArthur who was in the lanes of traffic, the report said. Schmidt could not stop in time and struck McArthur.
According to the report, Big River Ambulance pronounced McArthur dead on the scene at 5:31 a.m., and he was taken by Superior Mortuary Transport services to the St. Louis County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Schmidt was wearing a seat belt, and the vehicle had moderate damage.
