A 58-year-old Pacific man was arrested Friday evening, June 16, for suspicion of driving while intoxicated following a four-vehicle accident on I-270 south of Manchester Road in St. Louis County that left an Imperial woman injured, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported.

At 5:33 p.m., the Pacific man was driving a southbound 2005 Chevrolet Silverado and while swerving to avoid another vehicle, ran off the right side of the interstate, where it struck a guard rail. The pickup then traveled back onto the road and struck a southbound 2012 Chrysler Town and Country minivan driven by Dana M. Warner, 53, of Vandalia, Ill., the report said.

After that collision, the pickup struck a southbound 2021 Subaru Forester SUV driven by Jennifer A. Staats, 54, of Imperial, and the SUV was pushed off the interstate and into the right guard rail. Then John E. Meyerhoff, 63, of Chesterfield, driving a southbound 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee, swerved to avoid the pickup and the SUV and struck the guard rail, according to the report.

Staats was taken by ambulance to Mercy Hospital St. Louis in Creve Coeur, the report said.

No other injuries were reported.

All the drivers were wearing seat belts, the patrol reported.

The pickup, minivan and SUV were totaled, and the Jeep had minor damage, the report said.

The highway patrol arrested the Pacific man at 6:21 p.m. for the alleged DWI.

His name will not be published unless he is charged, and as of this afternoon, June 17, no charges from this incident had been filed.
