An 18-year-old man was seriously injured Monday afternoon when he was riding a motorcycle in De Soto and rear-ended a dump truck that the city of De Soto owns, authorities reported.
At 2:40 p.m. the motorcyclist, who lives in De Soto, “failed to keep a proper lookout” while riding a 2012 Honda NC700 and struck a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado driven by a 24-year-old De Soto man, who had stopped at Main and Perry streets, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported.
Sgt. Andy Gadberry, a highway patrol spokesperson, said the motorcyclist was taken by a medical helicopter to a St. Louis area hospital. The truck driver was not injured, the report said.
De Soto Police Capt. Jeff Wynn said the highway patrol responded to and investigated the crash since it involved a city vehicle.
The dump truck driver was wearing a seat belt, the patrol reported. De Soto Fire Chief Tony Ochoa reported the motorcyclist was wearing a helmet.
The motorcycle was extensively damaged, while the dump truck was not damaged, the report said.
