Four people, including a Eureka man and two Eureka children, were injured Saturday morning, Oct. 21, in a two-vehicle accident at highways 109 and W in the Jefferson County portion of Eureka, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported.

At 8:20 a.m., Kaytlin M. Allen, 22, of Union was driving a southbound 2015 Honda Civic and reportedly failed to yield to a yellow flashing arrow and turned left into the path of a northbound 2018 Dodge Journey, which struck the Civic. Rebecca A. Ponder, 38, of Eureka was driving the Journey, the report said.

No injuries were reported for Ponder. However, Allen was seriously hurt, as was a 9-year-old Eureka boy, who was a passenger in the Journey.

Two other passengers in the Journey were hurt – Robert J. Ponder, 40, of Eureka, who was moderately injured, and a 1-year-old Eureka girl, who sustained minor injuries, according to the report.

Allen, the 9-year-old boy and Robert Ponder were taken by ambulance to Mercy Hospital St. Louis in Creve Coeur, and the 1-year-old girl was taken by private conveyance to Mercy Hospital St. Louis, the report said.

Rebecca Ponder was not wearing a seat belt, but Allen and the passengers in the Journey were wearing seat belts or using other safety devices, the patrol reported.

Both vehicles were totaled, the report said.

The highway patrol did not release the children’s names because they are juveniles.
