A 38-year-old Mokane man was arrested for suspicion of driving while intoxicated following a one-vehicle accident early this morning (Oct. 24) on John Swaller Road south of West Rock Creek Road in High Ridge. Both he and a passenger – Heather N. Singer, 26, of Imperial – were seriously injured, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported.
At 1:26 a.m., the man was driving a 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer south on John Swaller Road and failed to negotiate a right turn, and the SUV began to skid, ran off the left side of the road and overturned, ejecting him and Singer, and then the vehicle struck a tree, the report said.
The driver was taken by North Jefferson Ambulance to Mercy Hospital South in south St. Louis County, and Singer was taken by Rock Township Ambulance to Mercy Hospital South, according to the report.
Neither one was wearing a seat belt, the patrol reported.
The SUV was totaled, the report said.
The highway patrol arrested the driver at 3:33 a.m. at the hospital for an alleged DWI with serious injuries and vehicular assault. His name will not be published unless charges are filed against him, and as this afternoon, none had been filed.
