The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is trying to locate a 55-year-old Hillsboro woman suspected of stealing deli meat, a package of bacon and other items from a Dollar General store north of Hillsboro. The theft happened after a heavy snowfall moved through the area, authorities reported.
A woman called the Sheriff’s Office at about 7:30 p.m. Feb. 3 to the Dollar General, 8634 Old Hwy. 21, after hearing the store’s alarm and seeing a vehicle leave the store, which appeared to be closed, the report said.
When deputies arrived, they found the front sliding door to the business open, and it appeared someone had forced their way into the store. The deputies used a police dog to search the store and didn’t find anyone inside, according to the report.
An employee came to the store and told the deputies the door should have been secured and the business was closed because of the inclement weather, the Sheriff’s Office reported.
The Sheriff’s Office had no estimate for the stolen items.
As of Feb. 10, deputies had not located the suspect, spokesman Grant Bissell said. He asks anyone with information about the incident to call the Sheriff’s Office at 636-797-5515.
