Two Hillsboro men and a Springfield woman were injured Thursday morning (Oct. 7) in an accident involving a big rig, a van and a car on I-44 east of Bowles Avenue near Fenton in St. Louis County, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported.

At 9:15 a.m., Manley G. Miles, 67, of Montgomery City, who was driving the 2019 Peterbilt 389 big rig east on the interstate, reportedly was inattentive and failed to stop in time for an eastbound 2010 Chevrolet Express van ahead of it that was slowing for congested traffic. The big rig struck the rear of the van, and then the van struck the rear of an eastbound 2013 Honda Civic that was in front of the van, the report said.

Darren M. Clinton, 52, of Hillsboro was driving the van, and Heather E. Pryor-Brown, 34, of Springfield was driving the car.

No injuries were reported for Miles.

However, Clinton and Pryor-Brown, and a passenger in the van – David A. Morris, 58, of Hillsboro – were moderately injured and taken by ambulance to Mercy Hospital St. Louis in Creve Coeur, the report said.

The hospital had no information about Clinton, though, a Mercy spokeswoman said.

She said Pryor-Brown was treated and released, and Morris was listed in satisfactory condition this afternoon (Oct. 8).

All those involved in the accident were wearing seat belts, the patrol reported.

The van was totaled, and the big rig and car were extensively damaged, the report said.
