Robert E. Duke, 57, of Hillsboro died Friday evening (April 23) after a pickup struck the motorcycle he was riding on Hwy. MM east of Hillsboro House Springs Road in House Springs, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported.
At 5:46 p.m., Duke was riding a 2009 Harley-Davidson Sportster 1200 Custom motorcycle west on the highway, and James F. Hassler, 50, of Dittmer, who was driving an eastbound 2018 Nissan Frontier, had a medical emergency and crossed the center of the road, and the front of the pickup struck the front of the motorcycle. Duke was ejected from the bike, and the pickup ran off the left side of the road and overturned, the report said.
No injuries from the accident were reported for Hassler.
Duke was pronounced dead at the scene by Medical Examiner Brandon Jones, according to the report.
Duke was not wearing a helmet, and Hassler was wearing a seat belt, the patrol reported.
Both vehicles were totaled, the report said.
