A Hillsboro man was hurt while riding in a sport utility terrain vehicle accident Saturday, Oct. 8, in Iron County, in which the driver was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported that a 33-year-old man from Ironton was driving a 2021 Polaris RZR north on Hwy. 49 two miles north of Annapolis at 11 p.m. when the vehicle turned around and began turning over, then left the left side of the road and hit a tree.
A passenger in the Polaris, Devian Golden, 33, of Hillsboro sustained moderate injuries and was taken by car to Parkland Health Center in Farmington.
The driver, who had minor injuries, was taken by ambulance to Iron County Medical Center in Pilot Knob.
Updates on their conditions were not available.
The driver of the Polaris was arrested by patrol officers on suspicion of felonious driving while intoxicated causing physical injury, careless and imprudent driving involving an accident, unlawfully operating a recreational vehicle on a highway and unlawfully operating an recreational off-road vehicle on a highway other than without a valid license.
He will not be named unless he is charged with a crime by the Iron County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
The driver was not wearing a safety helmet but Golden was, the report said.
The Polaris was totaled, according to the report.
