A Hillsboro man and a Festus woman were hurt Thursday afternoon (June 8) in a four-vehicle accident on Hwy. A at Morgan Road in the Festus area, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reports.
At 12:05 p.m., two vehicles were stopped in the eastbound lane of Hwy. A, and James R. Casey, 41, of Crystal City, who was driving another eastbound vehicle, a 2015 Dodge Grand Caravan, failed to stop, and the front of the minivan struck the rear of one of the two vehicles stopped ahead on the highway – a 1998 Oldsmobile Intrigue, the report said.
After that collision, the Intrigue slid into the westbound lane and struck a 2016 Ford F150 headed west on Hwy. A, and then the Intrigue struck the rear of the other vehicle that was stopped in the eastbound lane, a 2006 Volkswagen Passat, according to the report.
Roy E. Dixson, 63, of Hillsboro was driving the Intrigue, Michael D. Lowry, 48, of De Soto was driving the F150 and Savannah J. Gerullis, 20, of Festus was driving the Passat.
Dixson was moderately injured, and Gerullis sustained minor injuries, and they both were taken by Joachim-Plattin Ambulance to Mercy Hospital Jefferson in Crystal City.
Gerullis was treated and released, and Dixson was transferred to Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, a Mercy Jefferson spokesman said this afternoon (June 9).
All those involved in the accident were wearing seat belts, the patrol reported.
The Grand Caravan, Intrigue and Passat were extensively damaged, and the pickup sustained minor damage, the report said.
