A 37-year-old Hillsboro man was arrested June 4 for suspicion of driving while intoxicated following a two-vehicle accident north of Hillsboro that left him seriously injured, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported.

At 9:20 p.m., the Hillsboro man was driving a 2023 Ford Bronco north on Old Hwy. 21 south of Moss Haven Road, when he crossed the center line and struck the left side of a southbound 2007 GMC Envoy driven by a 16-year-old Hillsboro girl. The impact caused the Bronco to travel off the right side of the road, ejecting the man, and then the Bronco struck a rock bluff and overturned, the report said.

The man was taken by Big River Ambulance District to Mercy Hospital South in south St. Louis County where he was listed in satisfactory condition Monday morning, June 5, a hospital spokesman said.

The teenage driver was wearing a seat belt, and the Hillsboro man was not, the patrol reported.

Both the Envoy and Bronco were moderately damaged, the report said.

The highway patrol arrested the Hillsboro man at 11:23 p.m. at the hospital.

His name will not be published unless charges are filed against him, and as of Tuesday evening, June 6, none had been filed.

The patrol did not release the 16-year-old girl’s name because she is a juvenile.
