A Barnhart man was seriously injured Thursday evening, Dec. 28, when he crashed into a tractor-trailer at I-55 and Hwy. M in Barnhart, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported.
At 7:34 p.m., David M. Heineman II, 30, of Barnhart was driving a 2009 BMW 128i on the southbound ramp from the interstate to Hwy. M and allegedly failed to stop for a red light before traveling underneath the towed unit of a westbound 1998 Peterbilt tractor-trailer driven by Joshua A. Jones, 38, of Conway. The car struck the right side and undercarriage of the towed unit, the report said.
Antonia firefighters extricated Heineman from the car, and he was taken by Rock Township Ambulance to Mercy Hospital South in south St. Louis County, the report said.
Both drivers were wearing seat belts, the patrol reported.
The BMW was totaled, and the tractor-trailer was moderately damaged, the report said.
