Four young Jefferson County men were hurt in a two-vehicle accident Tuesday morning (Oct. 6) on Hwy. M just east of Old Lemay Ferry Road in Antonia, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reports.

At 11:13 a.m., Nickolas G. Wynde, 18, of Imperial was driving a 1995 Honda Accord in the right lane of westbound Hwy. M and drove into the back of a unit that was being towed by a 2000 Mack truck that also was headed west in the right lane, the report said.

John C. Peters, 66, of De Soto was driving the Mack Truck. No injuries were reported for him.

Wynde, however, sustained moderate injuries but refused treatment at the scene, according to the report.

Three passengers in the Accord were hurt, too – Nicholas J. Guerra, 20, of Hillsboro; Matthew J. Benedict-Homeier, 19, of Barnhart; and Eric B. Cornell, 19, of Crystal City.

Guerra was seriously hurt and transported by Rock Township Ambulance to St. Anthony’s Medical Center in south St. Louis County, where he was listed in satisfactory condition this morning (Oct. 7), a hospital spokesman said.

Benedict-Homeier sustained moderate injuries and was taken by Rock Township Ambulance to St. Anthony’s, where he was treated and released, the spokesman said.

Cornell sustained minor injuries, and he, too, refused medical treatment at the scene, the report said.

Peters was wearing a seat belt, but none of the men in the car was wearing one, the patrol reported.

The car was totaled, and the truck sustained minor damage, the report said.
