A Fenton man died Saturday afternoon (Aug. 14) after he fell from a boat into a private pond in Washington County.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported that Dennis Breitenstein, 74, and Richard Totsch, 67, both of Fenton, leaned over the side of a 1999 Tracker 12 boat at 7:28 a.m. in the pond off Baugher Town Road in Richwoods and both fell into the water.
Breitenstein reportedly attempted to swim to shore but was seen going under water and he never resurfaced.
He was pronounced dead at the scene at 8:58 a.m. by the Washington County Coroner’s Office.
The report made no mention of injuries to Totsch, the driver of the boat.
Neither man was wearing a lifejacket, the report said.
