fatal accident with road lines in background

A portion of Old Hwy. 21 remains in Imperial closed this afternoon, April 1, after a vehicle crashed into a dump truck this morning, causing the death of one of the drivers, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported at 1:10 p.m.

Cpl. Dallas Thompson, a Missouri State Highway Patrol spokesman, said the crash happened at about 7 a.m. on Old Hwy. 21 near Lions Den Road when a male driving a passenger vehicle crashed into a dump truck driven by a Jefferson County-area man. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene, and the driver of the dump truck had minor injuries.

Thompson said Old Hwy. 21 from Lions Den Road and north was still closed but should reopen soon.

“Road crews are scrubbing the road due to fuel spill on the road. It was extremely slick. And with the rain (in the) forecast, they want to get it clean,” he said.
