Three women, one from De Soto and two from Ballwin, were hurt Friday evening (March 8) in a four-vehicle accident on Hwy. 67 south of Sunnyside Road east of De Soto, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported.
At 5 p.m., David M. Schwartzkopf, 60, of Farmington was headed north in a 2015 Chevrolet 2500 in the left lane of Hwy. 67, and while attempting to move into the right lane, the front of the pickup struck the left rear of a northbound 2008 Ford Fusion, which ran off the road and then crossed the center median and continued into the southbound lanes, where the front of the Fusion struck the left side of a southbound big rig, the report said.
After the collision with the 2016 Peterbilt big rig, the Fusion spun into the left lane of southbound Hwy. 67, and the front of a southbound 2013 Ford Edge struck the rear of the Fusion, according to the report.
Mary J. Uebelein, 20, of Ballwin was driving the Fusion; Anthony A. Walker, 46, of Little Rock, Ark., was driving the big rig; and Nancy E. Riddle, 51, of De Soto was driving the Edge, the report said.
No injuries were reported for Schwartzkopf or Walker.
However, Uebelein was seriously hurt, and a passenger in the Fusion – Rachel L. Uebelein, 23, of Ballwin – sustained minor injuries. In addition, Riddle had minor injuries, the report said.
Mary J. Uebelein was taken by Joachim-Plattin Ambulance to Mercy Hospital South in south St. Louis County, and Rachel L. Uebelein was taken by private conveyance to Mercy Hospital South.
Riddle also was taken by Joachim-Plattin Ambulance to Mercy Hospital South, the report said.
Information about their conditions was not available today (March 9).
All those involved in the accident were wearing seat belts, the patrol reported.
The Fusion and Edge were totaled, the big rig was moderately damaged and the pickup had minor damage, the report said.
