A 19-year-old De Soto man died and an 18-year-old Hillsboro woman was moderately injured in a crash on I-44 in Phelps County, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported.

At 2:45 p.m. Aug. 15, the woman was driving an eastbound 2005 Toyota Tundra when she traveled off the left side of the road, overcorrected and overturned, ejecting Hunter Davidson, the 19-year-old passenger, the report said.

Phelps Air transportation services took Davidson to University Hospital in Columbia, and he was pronounced dead at 8:35 p.m. on Aug. 19 by hospital personnel, the report said.

Phelps Health hospital transported the woman, who was moderately injured, to Phelps Health in Rolla, the report said.

According to the report, neither teenager was wearing a seat belt, and the vehicle was totaled.

The Highway Patrol no longer publishes names of those involved in accidents. The Phelps County Coroner provided the name of the passenger.
