A 38-year-old De Soto man was arrested for suspicion of driving while intoxicated following a one-vehicle accident that happened late Friday afternoon, May 13, on Hwy. Y south of Jim Wilson Road west of Hillsboro between Grubville and Ware. The man was seriously injured in the crash, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported.

At 4:50 p.m., the man was driving a 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche south on the highway and ran off the right side of the road, where the pickup overturned, ejecting him, the report said.

The man was taken by helicopter to Mercy Hospital St. Louis in Creve Coeur, according to the report.

He was not wearing a seat belt, the patrol reported.

The pickup was totaled, the report said.

The patrol arrested the man at 5:44 p.m. for felony DWI at the hospital, the report said.

The man’s name will not be published unless charges are filed against him, and as of this morning, May 15, none had been filed.
