An 11-year-old De Soto girl was injured Wednesday night, May 1, in a crash just south of Valles Mines in St. Francois County, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported.
At 7:36 p.m., William H. Murray, 42, of De Soto, driving a 2001 Ford F150, turned onto northbound Hwy. 67 from westbound Hwy. Y and reportedly failed to yield to traffic, and Robert P. Mahan, 53, of Humansville, driving a northbound 2018 Peterbilt 389, attempted to avoid collision with the pickup but struck the left side of it. The tractor-trailer traveled off the left side of the road and came to a stop in the median, and the pickup came to a stop on the right shoulder, the report said.
No injuries were reported for Murray. However, Mahan sustained minor injuries, and the 11-year-old girl, who was a passenger in the big rig, was moderately injured. The girl was taken by St. Francois County Ambulance to Mercy Hospital Jefferson in Crystal City, and Mahan was taken by the ambulance district to Parkland Health Center in Bonne Terre.
Mahan was wearing a seat belt, and the girl was not wearing one, the report said.
The pickup was extensively damaged, and the tractor-trailer sustained minor damage, according to the report.
The highway patrol did not release the girl’s name because she is a juvenile.
