A Cedar Hill man was injured the afternoon of Aug. 2 when the 1987 Jeep Cherokee he was riding in had a mechanical malfunction and ran into a tree in an off-road area along Hwy. CC in Washington County, the Missouri Sate Highway Patrol reported.
At 4:45 p.m., Roy A. Ownes, 47, of De Soto was “traveling in an unknown direction on a mud path” and lost the use of the brakes, and the Cherokee ran down a hill and struck a tree, the report said.
No injuries were reported for Ownes.
However, a passenger in the Cherokee – Donald Q. Constantz, 59, of Cedar Hill – was moderately injured and taken by Washington County Ambulance to Mercy Hospital South in St. Louis County, where he was listed in satisfactory condition today (Aug. 5), a hospital spokesman said.
Constantz and Ownes were not wearing seat belts, the patrol reported.
The Cherokee had minor damage, the patrol reported.
