A 25-year-old Barnhart man was arrested Wednesday morning (March 6) for suspicion of driving while intoxicated on drugs following a three-vehicle accident on Hwy. 30 at New Sugar Creek Road in unincorporated Fenton that left him and a Fenton woman hurt, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported.
At 7:20 a.m., the man was driving a 2004 Chevrolet Aveo west on Hwy. 30 and allegedly ran a red light, and then the car struck the side of a 2004 Acura MDX that was heading north on New Sugar Creek Road and crossing Hwy. 30 with a green light, the report said.
The Aveo also struck a southbound 2018 Freightliner that was stopped on New Sugar Creek Road at the intersection, according to the report.
Elizabeth K. Jackson, 36, of Fenton was driving the Acura, and John J. Charette, 35, of Fenton was driving the Freightliner, the report said.
No injuries were reported for Charette. However, Jackson had minor injuries, and the Barnhart man was moderately hurt, according to the report.
Jackson was taken by Big River Ambulance to Mercy Hospital South in south St. Louis County, and the Barnhart man was taken by North Jefferson County Ambulance to Mercy Hospital South, where they were treated and released, a hospital spokesman said.
The Barnhart man was not wearing a seat belt, but the others involved in the accident were wearing them, the patrol reported.
Both the Aveo and Acura were totaled, and the Freightliner was moderately damaged, the report said.
The highway patrol arrested the Barnhart man later that morning at the hospital.
