An Arnold woman was killed and two Pacific men were seriously injured this morning (July 11) in a two-vehicle accident on Hwy. W north of Byrnesville Road in House Springs, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported.
At 8:35 a.m., Catherine G. Nichols, 70, of Arnold was driving a 2008 Honda Civic south on the Hwy. W, and Clayton E. Soward, 32, of Pacific was driving a 1997 Chevrolet CK250 pickup north on the highway but crossed into the southbound lane and struck the car head-on, the report said.
Nichols was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency personnel.
Soward and a passenger in the pickup – Robert V. Buckles, 30, of Pacific – were seriously hurt and taken by ambulance to area hospitals. Soward was taken to Mercy Hospital South in south St. Louis County, and Buckles was taken to Mercy St. Louis in Creve Coeur, the report said.
Nichols and Soward were wearing seat belts, and Buckles was not wearing one, the patrol reported.
Both vehicles were totaled, the report said.
