Hana Ljubijankic, 20, of Arnold was hurt Sunday afternoon (June 25) in a five-vehicle accident on I-270 south of I-44 in St. Louis County, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reports.
At 3:18 p.m., Ljubijankic was driving a 2013 Volkswagen Passat south on I-270 and failed to notice another southbound car that was stopped ahead, and the front of the Passat struck the rear of the other car, a 1997 Nissan Maxima, the report said.
That collision caused a chain reaction, with another southbound car, a 2009 Honda Accord, striking the Passat before one of those vehicles struck a fourth vehicle, a 2015 GMC Acadia, as well as a fifth vehicle, a 2014 Hyundai Elantra, according to the report.
Brian M. Melliere, 38, of Dupo, Ill., was driving the Maxima, Chase M. Rehagen, 18, of Manchester was driving the Accord, Keith J. Thomas, 60, of Webster Groves was driving the Acadia and Anissa K. Morris, 36, of O’Fallon was driving the Elantra.
No injuries were reported for any of them.
However, Ljubijankic was moderately injured and taken by ambulance to Mercy Hospital St. Louis in Creve Coeur, where she was treated and released, a hospital spokeswoman said today (June 26).
Ljubijankic was not wearing a seat belt, and Melliere was exempt from wearing one. All the others involved in the accident were wearing them, the patrol reported.
The Passat, Maxima and Accord were totaled, the Acadia was extensively damaged and the Elantra sustained minor damage, the report said.
