A 36-year-old Arnold man was arrested for suspicion of driving while intoxicated after he reportedly crashed a car on I-55 in Arnold. The man has been convicted of at least three prior DWI charges, Arnold Police reported.
At about 6:30 p.m., the man was driving a 2007 Nissan Altima and ran into the center barrier on I-55 near Hwy. 141. The car no longer had tires on its wheels, the report said.
No injuries were reported for the driver, but the car was totaled, the report said.
The driver allegedly told police he didn’t know he had been in an accident, but he thought he hit something. Officers allegedly smelled alcohol on the man’s breath, according to the report.
The driver allegedly failed field sobriety tests and was arrested. He was taken to the Police Station, where he was booked and released to a sober driver, Arnold Police reported.
Arnold Police will seek a felony DWI charge against the man as a persistent officer through the Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, Detective Lt. Jason Valentine said.
