A 13-year-old Arnold boy received serious injuries when the car he was riding in ran off the highway and hit a tree head-on, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reports. The crash happened at about 5:20 p.m. Wednesday (May 25) on Hwy. N, east of King School Road and north of Pilot Knob in St. Francois County.

Eply J. Cozic, 13, was taken by Air Evac helicopter to Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital in St. Louis. He was in fair condition today (May 26), according to a hospital spokeswoman.

Also injured in the crash were the driver of the 2006 Saturn Ion, Brianna C. Drapp, 21, of Arnold, and another passenger, Ryan R. LaRose, 22, of St. Louis. They both were taken by St. Francois County Ambulance to Iron County Medical Center in Pilot Knob with moderate injuries, the report said.

The accident happened as Drapp was driving east on Hwy. N and failed to negotiate a curve to the left. The Saturn went off the right side of the road and struck the tree, according to the patrol. The car was totaled. None of the three were wearing seatbelts, according to the report.
