Will (Ramón Rodríguez) and Angie Polaski (Erika Christensen) once dreamed of having a family together on Will Trent, but neither of them imagined it’d be like this.
The finale for Season 4 saw Angie endure extreme heartbreak after her new husband, Dr. Seth (Scott Foley), died due to internal injuries sustained in a car crash with her on the way to deliver their baby. Though she and the baby, whom she named Edie, were safe after being smashed into by another driver, sadly, Seth was quietly bleeding out, collapsed, and died after rushing her into the hospital.
Angie was left broken by the loss, and Will — with help from Nico (Cora Lu Tran) — stepped up to take a leave of absence from work and help raise the baby for several months while Angie dealt with her devastation. When Angie finally did pull through her period of depression, she and Will became something of a family unit that, under other circumstances, might’ve looked exactly like what they imagined they’d have together before everything went so wrong between them.
Now, we have to wonder whether there’s a possibility for them to become something more, again?
Will and Angie haven’t been romantic partners since the finale for Season 2, when he turned her in for covering for an abused girl who was exacting vengeance on sexual abusers. Angie was put on probation as a result of the incident, and she and Will were distanced for quite some time until their work brought them back into each other’s orbits. Eventually, forgiveness followed, and they became friends again. Will tried to be supportive of Angie throughout her pregnancy and marriage with Seth, and he had a few other girlfriends along the way, though the relationships didn’t last.
Now that Seth’s out of the picture, though, is there any potential romantic future for them? Maybe, according to the executive producers… but don’t hold your breath.
While speaking to TV Insider about the deadly Season 4 finale, cocreator Liz Heldens confirmed it’s never off the table. “Angie and Will are the beating heart of this show,” she explained. “It is nice to have them close again. And, I mean, I have friends who were like, ‘I miss Will and Angie having scenes together. I miss them.’ And it is nice to get them really, really in each other’s orbit and helping each other and pulling each other through like they have been.”
Then, coshowrunner Karine Rosenthal added, “We don’t need to rush to have the two of them be romantically involved anymore because they get to be together in a new way that we haven’t seen before.” Still, “Whether another person comes into the mix and then they have to navigate that again, or if it slowly leads to them trying again at some point, we’ll see.”
With how complex their relationship is, though, and all of the trauma they’ve shared over the years, do you even want to see them as more than just lifelong friends? Why or why not? Weigh in with our poll below!
