Job Fair attracts more than 500 prospective employees

The 2019 Job Fair attracted more than 500 prospective employees.

Save the date: On Aug. 19, the third annual Leader Job Fair returns in full force and in person. It will be held from 3-6 p.m. at the Fox C-6 Service Center, 849 Jeffco Blvd., in Arnold.

The free event will provide an opportunity for job seekers and prospective employers to connect. A variety of businesses will staff booths with representatives who will talk with prospective employees, take resumes and answer questions.

Resume specialists from Jefferson College will review participants’ resumes and offer suggestions for cover letters and help with interview skills and more.

“It is so important right now to help make these connections, to help workers find the jobs we know are out there,” Leader assistant publisher Peggy Scott said, “especially in a market that has been so troubled over the past year.”

A professional photographer will be on hand to take pictures of participants to use on their social media accounts or with their resumes. Attendees also will have the chance to win prizes at the event.

The first Leader Job Fair in 2019 was a resounding success, drawing more than 500 job seekers and featuring more than 50 vendors. Plans immediately were made for the second year, bigger and better and with some of the first-time glitches ironed out. Organizers were eager to see if lightning could strike twice.

What struck, however, was coronavirus.

So, the 2020 fair went virtual. It took the form of a webinar-style meeting, during which employers explained the services they offer and the type of employees they were seeking. An interactive question-and-answer session followed, and some employers also held on-the-spot “instant interviews” with interested job seekers.

Scott said the event was successful, but she was eager to return to the original in-person format.

“Nothing beats face-to-face interaction,” she said.

The upcoming Job Fair will once again be sponsored by five local entities: Leader Publications, the city of Arnold, the Arnold Chamber of Commerce, the Fox C-6 School District and Jefferson College.

A special section will be published in all editions of the Leader prior to the event, with detailed information about activities the day of the fair, schedules and profiles of some of the participants.
