Debby Grafton of Festus said it was apparent when she rescued her dog, Harper, a 2-year-old black mouth cur, that she used to live in difficult circumstances.
“She was rescued from Louisiana,” Grafton said. “She had been abused and we are still working on her not being shy. She won’t play with a toy if she sees you looking.”
However, Grafton said Harper is becoming more comfortable with her family.
“We’ve had her about eight months,” Grafton said. “She gets along great with our other pet, a boxer named Rocky. He’s 4. They get along perfect. She’s really fitting in good.”
Grafton said the dog rescue organization where she got Harper said she was "an escape artist."
However, Harper doesn't try to escape from her new home.
“She knows her boundaries,” Grafton said. “She doesn’t try to get away.”
