Jessie Montgomery of De Soto submitted this photo of her shorthair cat, Theo, for Pet Spot. She said she believes Theo is about a year old.
“She’s a stray that showed up at my car (in October 2024),” Montgomery said. “It happened to be my birthday, and I was heading to dinner. Truth be told, in that moment, I wanted to stay home and pet the random sweet kitty. I left, though, and she watched as I pulled away. The next morning, I went outside to see if she would show.”
She did reappear and Montgomery turned to the internet to see if she could find an owner. When no one claimed the cat, Montgomery decided to keep her.
“Finally, I named her in mid-December – Theo, short for Theodora, which is Greek for ‘divine gift,’” she said.
She describes Theo as “opportunistic.”
“She’s sweet when she wants something, but ornery otherwise and has no fear of the people she lives with,” Montgomery said. “She will walk up and give you a little nip on the ankle if she wants something.”
Nevertheless, Theo has brightened Montgomery’s life after she recently received an autoimmune diagnosis.
“She brought joy into my life that was missing a long time,” Montgomery said.
