Healthy Munchies, Chocolate Crunchers

Now that school is in session again, most kids come home after school looking for snacks to hold them over until dinner is ready. Here are two suggestions to satisfy that hunger: Healthy Munchies and Chocolate Crunchers.

Both are great to snack on while you’re sitting around watching TV. They’re also good to pack in school lunches.

The Chocolate Crunchers are chewy, but also crunchy because they contain corn flakes, nuts, coconut, oatmeal and chocolate chips. The Healthy Munchies include a combination of nutritious ingredients, and they’re tasty, so your kids are sure to love them. But, you may find yourself enjoying them as much as the kids do!

HEALTHY MUNCHIES

1 1/2 cups yogurt covered miniature pretzels

1 cup Honeycomb cereal

1 (.06-ounce) package freeze-dried strawberries

1 packet fruit snacks (from a box of your favorite brand)

1 (5-ounce) package of your favorite trail mix

In a medium size bowl, combine all the above ingredients. Put any leftovers in a Ziploc bag.

CHOCOLATE CRUNCHERS

1 regular box of German Chocolate or Devil’s Food cake mix

1 cup butter or margarine, softened

2 eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla

1 cup coconut

1 cup chopped walnuts

1 cup crushed corn flakes or other cereal flakes

1 cup oatmeal

1 (6-ounce) package (or 1 cup) semisweet chocolate chips

2 tablespoons sugar (to coat glass)

Heat oven to 350 degrees.

In large bowl, combine cake mix, butter or margarine, eggs and vanilla; mix well.

Add coconut, walnuts, corn flakes, oatmeal and chocolate chips; mix well.

Drop dough by rounded teaspoonfuls 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheets. Flatten with glass dipped in sugar.

Bake at 350 degrees for 8 to 12 minutes or until set. Cool 1 minute; remove from cookie sheets. Makes 4-5 dozen cookies.
