There’s only about a week left for Jefferson County home cooks to round up their favorite recipes and send them in to the annual Leader Holiday Recipe Contest.
Recipes are sought in five categories: appetizers, soups, salads, side dishes and desserts. Deadline for submitting recipes is 5 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 31.
A finalist will be chosen in each category, and that recipe will be featured at the sixth annual Leader Holiday Dinner, set for Friday, Nov. 30, at Jefferson College.
Diners there will vote on their favorite among the finalist dishes, and the winner will receive a grand prize of $300. The other finalists will each receive $50.
Jefferson County residents of all ages are invited to submit a recipe in any category, up to a maximum of five per reader.
Recipes may be submitted by mail at P.O. Box 159, Festus, 63028; in person at 503 N. Second in Festus; or by email at nvrweakly@aol.com.
In order to be eligible for the contest, entries must include the submitter’s full name, address, and contact telephone number. For more information about the contest, call the Leader at 636-931-7560.
Leader Publications has sponsored an annual recipe contest since 1999. The Holiday Dinner is sponsored by Leader Publications and the Jefferson College Foundation. Over the past five years, the event has raised more than $10,000, which was used to help defray the cost of sending students in the college ATS programs to competitions.
