Avocado-Crab Dip, Chili-Cheese Hotty and Spiced Honey Pretzels

As the holiday season approaches, a lot of us will be hosting or attending festive parties and get-togethers. No party is complete without snacks, and dips are always popular with family and friends.

Here are a few recipes you might want to try, especially if you want don’t want to serve the usual ready-made dips and snacks. This Avocado-Crab Dip is a sure crowd pleaser. So is this Chili-Cheese Hotty, which goes great with these Spiced Honey Pretzels.

Avocado-Crab Dip

1 large avocado, mashed

1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice

2 tablespoons grated onion

1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

1 (8-ounce) package cream cheese, softened

1/2 cup dairy sour cream

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 (7-1/2-ounce) can crab meat, drained and flaked

Tortilla chips or crackers

Mix mashed avocado with lemon juice, onion and Worcestershire sauce. Stir in cream cheese, sour cream and salt. Add crab meat and mix thoroughly.

Serve with tortilla chips or crackers. Makes 2 cups.

CHILI-CHEESE HOTTY

1 (15-ounce) can chili (no beans)

1/2 cup salsa verde or 1 (4-ounce) can chopped green chiles

1 pound Velveeta cheese, cubed

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

1/4 teaspoon cilantro-lime seasoning

1 cup fiesta blend shredded cheese

Serve with corn or tortilla chips or pretzels

Combine all ingredients. Heat over low heat, stirring occasionally, until cheese melts. Sprinkle fiesta cheese on top until melted.

Serve heated with corn chips or tortilla chips. Makes 4 cups.

SPICED HONEY PRETZELS

4 cups thin pretzel sticks

3 tablespoons honey

2 teaspoons butter, melted

1 teaspoon onion powder

1 teaspoon chili powder

Line a 15-by-10-by-1-inch baking pan with foil. Coat the foil with cooking spray.

Place pretzels in a large bowl. In a small bowl, combine honey, butter, onion powder and chili powder. Pour over pretzels and toss to coat evenly.

Spread into prepared pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 8 minutes, stirring once.

Cool on a wire rack, stirring gently serval times to separate. Makes 8 servings.
