Ryleigh Ramey said her family is bringing something new to the area – a rolled ice cream shop.
She is the manager of Tanglefoot Creamery, which is expected to open Saturday, Jan. 21.
The shop is housed in the bottom floor of a two-story office building at 1160B E. Gannon Drive in Festus.
“We’re not part of a franchise,” said Ramey, 17, of Festus. “This is our first one. We heard of rolled ice cream online. It was actually my grandpa’s idea.”
Her grandfather, Michael Cords, owns the business.
Ramey said the way the ice cream is rolled up and served gives it a unique flavor.
“(The process) definitely amplifies the taste of the ice cream,” she said. “Any topping a customer wants is mixed into the ice cream. Once the ice cream gets to a certain temperature (while rolled on a plate), it gets rolled into rolls. I believe the temperature is around minus-22.”
Some of the ingredients that can be mixed in with the ice cream include pretzels, chocolate chips, candy bar pieces and breakfast cereal, as well as fresh fruit, like cherries and bananas. In addition, chocolate, caramel and strawberry syrup may be added to the ice cream treats.
“They can mix in any two out of the categories,” Ramey said. “It could be one from fresh fruits and one from syrups as their choice to be added to their rolled ice cream.”
Ramey said her favorite is cookie dough rolled ice cream.
The starting price for a cup of rolled ice cream is $8, Ramey said.
“That comes with two items mixed into the ice cream. Additional toppings are 50 cents each,” she said.
Ramey said a sugar-free vanilla ice cream will be available.
“We also have cones,” she said. “There eventually will be different size cups. We’ll start with 6-ounce cups.”
Tanglefoot Creamery will expand its menu as time goes on.
“We want to do things like ice cream sandwiches, cake pops and milk shakes,” she said.
Ramey said a couple of her family members will help her run the shop, although she could hire more workers soon.
“We are accepting applications,” Ramey said.
Those seeking more information about the business may visit TikTok or Instagram and type in Tanglefoot Creamery.
“We will be going on Facebook,” Ramey said. “We don’t have a phone number yet.”
She said Tanglefoot Creamery will be open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.
