The Big Muddy Sandwich

Sugarfire Smokehouse, which features the Big Muddy Sandwich, plans to open a location in Arnold this fall.

A Sugarfire Smokehouse is coming to Arnold.

The barbecue restaurant chain will open its 16th location this fall at 2204 Michigan Ave. in a 5,300-square-foot space in the Water Tower Place and Shoppes Center that used to house a Super China Buffet restaurant, Sugarfire reported in a written statement.

It will be the first Sugarfire Smokehouse in Jefferson County.

“I live in Jefferson County, and my two boys attend school in the Fox School District,” said Gregg Medeiros, who owns the location, along with Tom Lombardo, Tyson Long and John Brauch. “The development of this community means the world to us. It’s our home. It’s our family.”

“After extensive research, we decided Jefferson County would be an outstanding location. Arnold, in particular, really fit our sense of community,” Lombardo said. “A commitment to our neighbors is one of the most integral parts of the Sugarfire culture.”

The restaurant will have a banquet room and a spacious patio, the company announced

The menu will include the items Sugarfire has become known for since opening its first location in O’Fallon, Ill., in 2017, such as brisket, baby back ribs, turkey, salmon and pulled pork with chef-inspired side options that change daily.

The restaurant also carries a burger made form a mix of chuck, brisket and boneless short rib, as well as specialty sandwiches, like the Big Muddy, which contains brisket, smoked sausage, horseradish sauce, BBQ sauce, lettuce and pickles, and the Brisket Cheesesteak, a Philly-inspired sandwich served with brisket, onions, peppers and cheese on a hoagie roll.

The restaurant also will serve pies made by co-founder and pastry chef Carolyn Downs.

In addition to restaurants in Missouri and Illinois, Sugarfire has locations in Colorado, Texas, Florida and Iowa.

“This will be our eighth location in Missouri, our home state, and we are thrilled to continue to give our biggest fans more opportunities to eat some of the best barbecue around,” co-founder Charlie Downs said of the Arnold location

Sugarfire will provide updates on its Arnold location on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter under the handle @Sugarfire55. For more information about the franchise, go to sugarfiresmokehouse.com.
