House Springs is getting a new coffee shop.

A Grind Coffee Co. drive-thru coffee shop will open soon at 4561 Gravois Road where the Smokey D’s barbecue stand used to operate.

Hallie Jackson, who owns the shop, along with her husband, William, said they hope to see the shop open late this month or early in April.

She said the shop won’t have in-store dining, but they hope to offer a walk-up service beginning this summer.

The Jacksons, who plan to move from Arnold to Festus, already own and operate one coffee shop – On the Grind at 1277 North Truman Blvd. in Crystal City.

That shop opened a little more than a year ago.

“It has been amazing, a lot busier than we planned,” Hallie said. “It picked up over the summer and then especially over the holidays. It’s been doing a lot better than we expected.”

She said the plan was always to expand, just not so quickly.

“When we first talked about it (opening the Crystal City coffee shop),” our goal was to have four or five shops, but we were going to wait another year or so, but this opportunity opened up,” she said.

Hallie said she and her husband are leasing the House Springs land where the small building sits, but they own the building, a converted trailer.

In Crystal City, they lease the property and the building.

Hallie said she and her husband not only offer hot and iced coffee, from roaster Park Avenue Coffee in St. Louis, but also frappuccinos, smoothies, teas, and Lotus energy drinks, which are plant-based energy drinks that get their energy-inducing properties from raw green coffee bean extract.

The Jacksons also make and sell muffins, cookies and cake pops. In addition, they sell breads, brownies and gooey butter cakes they buy from their roaster’s baking company, the Ann and Allen Baking Co., also based in St. Louis.

The House Springs location will have the same hours as those at the Crystal City shop: 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday; 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturdays, and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sundays.

Hallie said she and her husband have eight employees who work at the Crystal City location, some who will work at both shops, but they plan to hire three to five more people.
