Longtime Jefferson County educator and naturalist Eva Kirkpatrick, 86, died this morning, June 8, in St. Louis County.
Mrs. Kirkpatrick was a 1947 Washington University graduate and taught science for nearly 25 years in the Fox School District. She was recently given the Most Distinguished Scientist Award for 2011 from the Missouri Academy of Science. She was one of the driving forces behind the Mastodon Art/Science Regional Fair.
She and her husband, Kemps, who died in 1998, built Stonebrook, their home in Imperial that was named to the National Register of Historic Places in January 2011. Mrs. Kirkpatrick wrote a column for a local newspaper for many years, chronicling the plants and wildlife of the area.
Mrs. Kirkpatrick is survived by three children: Vera (Carl “Buz”) McCullough of Stonebrook; Rod (Nanda) Kirkpatrick of Texas and Becky (James) Osbourne of Ballwin.
Funeral services are being planned.
