Michelle Hohmeier said she wants her store, Tree of Life Home, Art & Vintage Market, to feel like home to customers.

The store, which is located at 109 E. Main St. in Festus, offers a variety of home products including decor, florals, local artwork, refinished furniture and more.

The shop recently expanded to include a space downstairs called Under the Tree which holds antique products and local artwork.

“There’s a phrase that I use with a lot of things, and it’s welcome home to Tree of Life because it’s kind of like walking into home, a little more busy and chaotic,” she said.

Hohmeier opened the store seven years ago with her mother, who owned a business refinishing furniture.

“We used to just refinish furniture,” she said. “We got tired of dragging it into St. Louis to sell it and decided to start a shop on Main Street.”

Hohmeier said she enjoys the creative aspects of running her business.

“I think my favorite part is just creating in general,” she said. “I’ll use different products and layers and all sorts of different finishes on the furniture, but then I also create flower arrangements, and you know, and then designing different vignettes in the store.”
