‘Blessed:’ Pandemic not slowing the pace at Murphy Carpet in High Ridge

Business is good at Murphy Carpet in High Ridge, despite COVID-19, sales representative Al Lenz said.

The biggest change is the requirement for a little patience when it comes to delivery on orders of flooring supplies.

“During the fall, deliveries typically take two to three weeks,” Lenz said. “The pandemic has added another week to week and a half to that.”

Lenz said customers have been understanding about that and always appreciate the staff’s neighborly attitude.

“Most of our business is referral,” he said. “It is a wonderful place to have a small business.”

Lenz said the store, 2116 Penta Drive, took a hit when stay-at-home orders were put in place in the pandemic’s early days. But that quickly changed.

“We have been busy since the late part of April,” Lenz said. “We are blessed to have almost more than we can handle.”

Murphy Carpet is owned by Ed

Luedeman. The business opened in 1978 and moved to its current location about 20 years ago from Antire Road in High Ridge, said Lenz, who has been with Murphy Carpet for 13 years.

Lenz said the business is following COVID-19 precautions. Employees always wear masks, and customers are required to wear masks when they enter the showroom.

He said customers do not mind following safety protocols.

“You don’t have to tell people what to do and not to do,” Lenz said. “Most people are aware of what their responsibility is and ours, and we both respect that.”
