Doors are open at Grand Slam in Fenton, despite two closures

First a fire and then a pandemic. Things haven’t been easy at Grand Slam Restaurant and Bar in Fenton.

But general manager Patrice Pupillo said the restaurant is up to the challenge.

“My grandmother always said that the only constant in this life is change – so be adaptable,” Pupillo said. “I think that’s something that our family has ingrained within our spirits.”

Pupillo said her father, Ed Pupillo, opened the restaurant on Dec. 7, 2007, with the vision of bringing a sports bar to the community.

A “catastrophic fire” closed the business on June 12, 2019, she said, and reopened six months later. But then, COVID-19 forced a second closure from March 25-May 5.

Since then, dine-in customers have been welcome once again.

“While we had the option to stay open for curbside, we found that our employees wanted to be home with their families, so we put their family needs and wants first,” Pupillo said. “Since we’ve reopened, we have been met with fantastic support from our local community. Many take advantage of the right to come in and dine with us.”

Pupillo said guests have the option to select a disposable paper menu or regular menu, or scan a QR code when dining inside the restaurant.

She said the restaurant, 519 Mae Court, is known for good food, including burgers, sandwiches, steak, seafood, salads and more.

“It’s not uncommon to see guests stop in multiple times a week, even multiple times a day, either because they are hungry, or just want to stop in to see who happens to be there at the moment,” Pupillo said.

She said live musicians are at the restaurant 7-10 p.m. Wednesdays, 7:30-10 p.m. Fridays and 2-5 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays.

Karaoke is featured from 8 p.m. to midnight every Thursday and trivia is held on Tuesdays, starting at 8:30 p.m.
