All together now: Baisch Nursing Center presents united front to fight COVID
Getting through the COVID-19 crisis has been a joint effort at Baisch Nursing Center, east of De Soto.
Administrator Jennifer Otte said the staff has performed admirably throughout the pandemic and residents and their loved ones have offered superb cooperation.
“I want to give a shout-out to all the facility staff, family and residents for all their cooperation and understanding,” she said.
Adjustments have been made to provide maximum protection, Otte said.
“We’ve made several changes,” she said. “We’ve implemented all the required protocols since COVID began, one area being visitations.
“We are doing outdoor visits and window visits. Window visits are where they come to the residents’ room windows. We’re striving to do indoor visits, but there will be several restrictions in place.”
Infection control has been a top priority.
“That includes not only nursing, but environmental services, as well,” Otte said. “Since the start of the pandemic, we have added additional staff to keep the facilities clean and to supervise social distancing.”
Otte said the number of residents at the center, 3260 Baisch Drive, has remained consistent during the pandemic, at least in part because of social distancing requirements.
“We currently have 54 residents. We have a capacity of 79 residents,” she said. “Our (business) has pretty much stayed the same. It’s been stable.”
She said social distancing has affected how many residents the center can accept.
“We are accepting new residents upon availability,” Otte said.
She said the facility, which provides skilled nursing and residential care services on 90 acres, is weathering the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We are on solid ground and plan to push forward into the future,” Otte said.
