Wildwood kickboxing gym gradually returning to normal
9Round StL kickboxing gyms are expected to start operating in a more familiar fashion soon.
Corey McEnaney, who owns four 9Round StL gyms (17185 New College Ave. in Wildwood; 12536 Olive Blvd., Suite G, in Creve Coeur; 11752 Manchester Road in Des Peres; and 3026 Winghaven Blvd. in O’Fallon) said his facilities will be able to return to non-scheduled workouts and trainer-led exercises soon.
“We are going to go back to the 9Round way, which are no class times,” said McEnaney, who took over ownership of the gyms Sept. 1.
“We like to use the term, ‘You are always on time, and you are never late.’ We are not there yet.”
McEnaney said he hopes to reinstitute the walk-in system by mid-November. Clients have had to schedule workout times since mid-March.
St. Louis County is now allowing gyms to operate at 50 percent capacity, which allows for about nine clients and two trainers to be inside the facilities at the same time. The 9Round workout system has clients go through nine stations during a 30-minute period doing kickboxing-themed exercises.
“We may have to adjust that number depending on the gym,” McEnaney said.
McEnaney said the gyms are waiting for state officials to allow trainer-led workouts again. When that is allowed, clients will have the option to do exercises with trainers, as long as both participants are wearing masks.
If a client does not want to wear a mask, alternative exercises will be offered at the station.
“A lot of our members love the trainer-led drills,” McEnaney said. “We will bring it back as soon as we can.”
McEnaney said the gyms are offering a new-ownership deal through Nov. 7, which provides savings on gym fees and equipment.
