Brittany Borman

Festus native Brittany Borman, shown here throwing the javelin at the 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials. She competes for the New York Athletic Club. Borman finished 15th in the women's javelin at the 2012 Olympic Games in London.

The Festus High graduate qualified for her second U.S. Olympic track and field team Saturday (July 9), finishing fourth in the women’s javelin throw at the U.S. Olympic track and field trials in Eugene, Ore. She earned the third and final spot on the U.S. team in the event because the second-place finisher, Hannah Carson, has not met the Olympic qualifying standard of 62 meters, as Borman has. Just as she did four years ago in qualifying for the London Olympics, Borman made the team this time on her sixth and final attempt, tossing the spear 56.6 meters (185 feet, eight inches). The 2016 Olympic Games will be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from Aug. 5-21.
