If you’re looking for one-of-a-kind home decor or vintage furniture with a fresh look, Tree of Life Home Decor, 109 E. Main St., in Festus, just may have what you need.

Michelle Hohmeier and her mother, Nancy Becker, own the store, which opened in 2019. They refurbish old furniture and sell it, along with home decor and other items.

Hohmeier said she currently is wrapping up several furniture refurbishing projects including a small kitchen table and chairs, a hutch and a chest.

“People may have a piece of furniture that’s been passed down in the family they want refurbished,” she said. “You find old furniture is more stable, such as Thomasville, and they’re made of real wood. It’s better furniture.”

After the furniture is refurbished, it looks great and can be counted on to last, Hohmeier said.

“If someone has a piece of furniture, we can update it,” she said. “We can stain it and use other techniques.”

They refurbish only the wood parts of old furniture; they do not reupholster, she said.

Hohmeier said the shop also has a lot of spring inventory coming in.

“We have all new home decor and local art,” she said. “We focus on local artists in the St. Louis area.”

Hohmeier said she hopes to reach out to more local artists in the future.

She also said she and her mother are passionate about providing quality products made in the U.S. by small businesses.

Hohmeier said she plans to expand the shop’s gourmet food selection and branch out to other baking mixes and shelf-stable foods people can grab for a party.

The store hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. For more information about the business, visit treeoflifefestus.com or the shop’s Facebook page, or call the store at 636-638-1018.
