Summerville of St. Andrew’s senior living community in Eureka offers a unique sense of community and independent living space for those 55 and older, said Jamie Benack, the community’s lifestyle counselor.
The community, at 450 Summerville Blvd., has 94 homes and offers duplex-style units with open floor plans. Each unit has a private home entrance, with a patio or deck and an outdoor green space. Each living space only has one level.
“(With) other independent living communities, it’s a little more structured as opposed to here,” Benack said. “You’re living in your home (independently), and then the added benefit is you have more of a sense of community.”
She said the sense of community at Summerville makes it stand out from other senior living communities, adding that the seniors who live there are always checking in on each other.
Benack said the community offers many gathering spaces, as well as a fitness room, clubhouse and bocce and pickleball courts.
While Summerville is an independent living community, it takes care of a lot of tasks for residents.
“It is a maintenance-free lifestyle,” Benack said. “We don’t want our residents (doing things like) getting up on ladders and changing light bulbs.”
Other than electricity, nearly all utilities are included in the monthly bill, like basic cable, internet, water, sewer, trash and recycling. Other features are ADT Security Systems, video doorbells and appliances.
Recently, the facility got a new bus that is used to take residents on outings, like trips to art museums and Eckert’s farms.
Summerville also recently hired a concierge who drives the bus and uses a small golf cart to assist seniors
